Week 2 Update

With another round of Premier League matches behind us, the FPL table has been updated and the window has reopened.

No Change At The Top

Despite a number of the old timers calling him a one week wonder, Andy Harvey has retained top spot. He is coming under extreme pressure though from two of last seasons stalwarts in the shape of Glenn Brophy and Andy da Costa, the latter actually led the FPL in the early part of last season. Known as The Guvnor because of the size of his nose, he top scored this week with a massive 183 points.

The matches are tough to predict at the moment and the table can change radically each week so we could have a completly different top three when the table is updated again next Monday morning.

It's good to see both of our experts enter the top 50 this week, Tony Cottee had just the better of last weeks battle of the legends, but John Salako just has his nose in front by three points..

The Week Ahead

It's going to be another week of interesting fixtures which will be difficult to predict. Liverpool should beat Stoke at Anfield and I watched Bolton at the weekend and if they play like they did again Arsenal will have no trouble disposing of them at The Reebok. Other than those two though I think the rest a dificult to call. I was rubbish last week and my table is a nightmare, almost beyond saving but for what it's worth here's what I think..

Fulham have a good record at Ewood, are on a bit of a roll at the moment and will go into this match unbeaten for almost a month. Rovers on the other hand are having a tough time as Incy struggles to find his feet. Fulham's away record though is very poor indeed as we all know although again they have won three of their last four away games in the Premier League. Hmm. I think it could go either way so I'm going to sit on the fence and go for a draw.

Sunderland have home advantage against local rivals Boro which will help, but I rate Boro this season. I kind of think this has a draw written all over it, but again it could go either way. I've had easier mornings than this!!! I can't decide so it's another draw for me.

Anyone who reads this column regularly will know I have all the time in the world for Newcastle. I so want them to do well but yet again they have shot themselves in the feet. I have some opinions about it all as most of us do, but this is not the place for that. I don't see them fixing anything this week and if last weekend was a good time for Hull to play them, this is a great weekend to have them at home. West Ham are the lucky recipients of this gift and I can see a big smile across Zola's face come five o'clock on Saturday. Home Win.

Tottenham are another team who baffle me. They seem to do everything right in terms of getting managers with pedigree and paying top dollar for players, but still they can't get it right on the pitch. Last night's performance was pretty awful and they deserved to lose, Villa to be fair did look very good though. Wigan will make the trip south rightly thinking they can win this game or at least leave with something. Being the romantic fool that I am though I am going to back the Spurs yet again. Home Win.

No one predicted Hull would win at St James Park and don't try and say you did as I have seen the predictions.. This weekend they are at home to Everton who with Tim Cahill back in their side will be a far tougher test. I can't see anything other than an Away Win.

Man City v Pompey is a massive game and one I would really like to watch. I fully expect these two teams to be pushing for Europe at the end of the season and probably getting it. They are potentially as good as anything outside of the top four. That makes it another tough one to call and none of the three results would surprise me. I have a slight concern about City at the back and Defoe is on fire at the moment so for that reason I am going to go for Portsmouth to edge it by the odd goal. Away Win.

West Brom looked pretty good in beating West Ham on Saturday but I do have concerns about their defence. Villa on the other hand looked very strong and well organised last night. I fancy Villa to win this one so long as their main players are fit. They did get kicked about the pitch last night and have got to make the long trip to Bulgaria for a UEFA Cup match on Thursday so they could be a little tired and bruised, but I still like them to win this one. Maybe wait until Friday to decide for sure but at them moment, away win.

And finally the "Big One". Chelsea have an extra days rest from their Champions League games this week although both have home ties so it shouldn't be an issue. After an indifferent start to the season United will be desperate to win this one but without Ronaldo I think they have a tough job to do so. I have a horrible feeling it might finish 0-0 but then my brain is a little fried from trying to think about the previous nine games. I really don't see United winning this one but they could get a point. Draw.
