Week 22 Update

Who said it's becoming a two horse race? Certainly not me.. I need to say how unhappy I am with the fixtures people. Do they not consider us at the FPL when they are putting these games all over the place. Someone really does need to have a word. We have already had to void a couple of matches and it looks like we might lose another two. Otherwise we would have to open the window for a single day which I really don't think is fair.

So, this week you need to add your predictions for this weekends fixtures and next weeks midweek fixtures. We will do the next update on Thursday 5th March. The window will then remain open up until Saturday 14th March when hopefully things will start getting back to normal. Somewhere in this we will lose the Sunderland v Spurs and Fulham v Blackburn fixtures.

The Week Ahead

I have to be honest (sorry Russ) but it's not looking good for WBA. They were just about the weakest team to visit the cottage so far this season and but for the woodwork it really could have been six or seven. Their next two fixtures away at Everton and at home to Arsenal look very tough and I could see them being cut adrift at the bottom. They might not be alone though as Middlesbrough look like they could be going the same way too. I would fear for Boro if they went down, certainly there would be many changes up there and I'm not sure how they would deal with life in the Championship, just look at the current bottom four, Charlton, Southampton, Norwich and Forest, all recent occupants of Premier League births. WBA on the other hand would have the Hawthorns rocking once again next season as they make another push for promotion.

Boro have still got to play a lot of the teams around them so it's still firmly in their hands, but what really worries me is their last five fixtures, they have trips to Arsenal, West Ham and Newcastle and home matches against Villa and Man Utd. Hmm.

The third team to go down is anyones guess. I think Stoke are probably favourites but the following fixtures - Home to Bolton, Boro, Newcastle, Blackburn, West Ham and Wigan as well as trips to WBA and Hull are all potentially ones they could pick up points from. For me Blackburn and Newcastle have much tougher run ins so it may well be a space worth watching..

Tonight it's back to the cottage for the FA Cup replay v Swansea, if you get a chance to watch the highlights (sadly it's not live other than on justin.tv) look out for the little fella leading the mighty whites out on to the pitch as it will be no other than number one son and current occupant of 12th place in the FPL table, Leon. He is mascot for the night and really looking forward to it. He did it once before in April 2005 and we managed to win (3-1 home to Pompey) so I am looking for him to maintain his 100% record. If you're there give him a big cheer and if you're not tape it and point him out to your friends especially if you are below him in the table..

On Saturday we make our third trip to the excellent Emirates Stadium and it has to be third time lucky. We have conceded last minute (ish) goals on our first two visits so I'm hoping we can capitise on the Gunners inability to score and hang on for a 0-0 draw.. LOL
